why "baby yoda" is the greatest merchandising tool of all time

You know it. I know it. They know it. Aliens from another galaxy know it.

The Child is here to stay. Forever.

Disney+ recently came out just in time for the global pandemic. It sold itself by not only having every Disney thing ever, but by also having its very own show, The Mandalorian, a Star Wars spin-off, or, sub-show, or, whatever. It's a Star Wars thing. Anyways, the show follows a Mandalorian, who is a bounty hunter. Blah blah blah shootouts money, etc. Eventually, our main character is given a new bounty. He goes to this bounty, and there you go, "baby Yoda" rises and is now the sole money maker for Disney and the backbone of Disney+ as well as Target.

So, what exactly makes "baby Yoda" so dang popular? Well, for starters, this is not literally Yoda as a baby. The Mandalorian takes place around the same time as the fall of the Death Star (the second one, as said in Season 2, episode 1), so Yoda is very well alive and exists already. The child is actually 50 years old, as we learn in the first season of The Mandalorian, but he is more like a toddler. The species ages differently. The "cute factor" comes in with the huge ears and huge eyes and the oversized sweater. It really is adorable. I have a growing collection of "baby Yoda" merchandise, myself. See what I have by visiting @TheOrganizedHoarderCollections on Instagram!

With Christmas and other various gift-giving holidays approaching, you will definitely start to notice more and more "baby Yoda" merchandise showing up in your favorite stores- and even gas stations. I saw a bic lighter with his face on it the other day. It really is easy merchandising; Disney hit it right on the nose with this one. You put something cute on anything and it will sell. Like, what have I not seen that doesn't have "baby Yoda" on it? I feel like Target is having an absolute field day with this character. As a Team Member there, I see just how much stuff we have every single day and it keeps multiplying. I work in the clothing department and we get new shirts with him on them every single day.

Target, for Black Friday, or more like Black Friday Week, released a giant "baby Yoda" plushie that kind of feels like one of those "squishmallow" things that are really soft and squishy. He is holding a one-eyed frog and yes we have one sitting on our couch now. He is currently on sale for $24.99 but is originally a hefty $49.99.

The plushie is of pretty good quality. It is incredibly soft and squishy and makes for a great pillow. I wouldn't pay the $50 for him, but people definitely would (and have). I would say $24.99 is a fair price for the size of him. My Target got 12 of him and they were sold out within the first 12 hours of him being set out in a giant box in the boy's clothing department.

Amongst the several toys we now have of "baby Yoda," you can also find him on clothes (as I mentioned), water bottles, candy, cookies, milk, cereal, all food packaging, um... yeah literally everything that exists. It sells. So, why not put it on everything human beings see every single day?

Oh man, don't even get me started on the Funko merchandise of this creature. I would say within 2 weeks of the show airing on Disney+, Funko made, like, four different figures of him. Season 2 Episode 1 came out and the neXT DAY Funko had a figure out. It's insane. The show isn't even about Star Wars or "Mando" anymore, it's just about this little green creature that eats frogs and strange eggs.

If you have not seen The Mandalorian, I would highly suggest it. It's funny, adventurous, and has great action scenes. Plus, the story is very well written. Some would argue the show is better than the last three Star Wars movies. Each episode is an all new adventure. Plus, you know, "baby Yoda" scenes are very important.

Thanks for reading!
